Fibro-Care™ Q&A

QWhy do you use magnesium glycinate?

Minerals are bound to certain substances such as oxide, chloride, and glycinate. Our magnesium is bound (chelated) to the amino acid, glycine. Most minerals are hard to break down and absorb, and as a result may cause GI discomfort, constipation, or diarrhea. Magnesium oxide is a common form but can cause bowel discomfort and diarrhea when taken in the amounts needed for FMS and ME/CFS. Chelated minerals are believed to be delivered easier. For those with irritable bowel syndrome, the chelated form may be the preferred choice. We use only Albion patented magnesium glycinate.

QWhat does magnesium do?

Two very important things: helps muscle fatigue and pain. Since the Krebs energy cycle is magnesium dependant, any deficiency results in less than optimal energy available for movement and function. Muscles shorten, fatigue, spasm, and eventually end up in chronic pain.

QHow can my muscles be deficient if my magnesium (Mg) blood levels are normal?

More than 70% of Americans are deficient in magnesium. By the time Mg deficiencies show up in the blood, you’re critically low. Muscle biopsies on FMS patients, however, have shown that even when the serum blood Mg levels are normal, the muscles are woefully lacking. Taking the recommended daily value (DV) isn’t enough when you’re deficient.

QWhat are the signs of magnesium deficiency?

Magnesium is involved in all energy production and over 325 different enzyme systems in the body, according to Dr. Burton Altura of the State University Center in New York. Without magnesium, muscles do not have the energy to move. Muscle symptoms include tremors, numbness and tingling in the extremities, shortening and tightening, and mitral valve prolapse. Poor energy production and impaired enzyme activity cause mental fog, migraines, allergies, and increased PMS symptoms. This is only the short list of how low magnesium impacts the body’s function!

QCan I take more than six Fibro-Care™ a day?

Research suggests 300-750 mg magnesium daily for FMS and ME/CFS. This should be a combined total so be sure to check your other supplements when figuring your daily dose. It’s always wise to ask your doctor as well, especially if you want to exceed the recommended dose. For best results, take Fibro-Care™ in a divided dose, i.e. two tablets for breakfast, two for lunch, and two for dinner. Combine Fibro-Care™ with Multi-Gold™ or Foundation Formula™ and you can easily reach your needed dose.

QWhat if Fibro-Care™ upsets my stomach?

Digestive problems are common in FMS and ME/CFS and other chronic pain conditions (candidiasis, leaky gut, ulcers, irritable bowel). If you have trouble, remember to start slowly, even if it’s just 1/4 to 1/2 of the optimal dose. Increase slowly. Make sure to take supplements with food. Often it is not the Fibro-Care™ itself that causes the upset. If starting slowly does not work, evaluate your digestion health. Once that’s under control, restart your Fibro-Care™.

Q What is malic acid?

Malic Acid is a natural acid found in fruit such as apples. The use of apple cider vinegar for pain goes back to Vermont folk medicine and is the subject of a book by Dr. Jarvis Brown. It is very weak acid, especially when compared to hydrochloric (stomach) acid. Malic acid, like magnesium, is critical to the Krebs cycle in forming ATP (energy). In studies a magnesium and malic acid combination decreased FMS and ME/CFS symptoms.
