October Healthy HintSpring forward, Fall back. Adjusting your sleep schedule will be easier if...
you go to bed 10 minutes earlier for six days before Daylight Savings Time starts on November 2nd. This allows you to slowly adjust yourself to the upcoming one hour change to Standard Time. The switch is a perfect time to remind yourself for other notable—and healthy—things to do. Put new batteries in room smoke detectors. Schedule the car for a pre-winter maintenance including anti-freeze and snow tires. Schedule yearly vision and medical checkups for the family. Rotate bed mattresses. Have the rugs cleaned. Use the change as a signal for Fall cleaning. You can probably think of a dozen things to add to your list! If you suffer from seasonal affective disorder (SAD), where the shortened days affect mood, consider St. John's Wort, an herb that helps SAD. For best results, put it on your November 2nd "to do" list, too, since it can take up to 6 weeks to be effective. And, if you have trouble making the sleep transition from Daylight to Standard time, another herb that’s timely for the season is Valerian Rest™. It’s non-habit forming and short acting so you won’t wake up with next day grogginess. It’s October's feature product and does more than just aid sleep. To read more, click on Valerian, Not Just for Sleep. Now go outside and enjoy the beautiful autumn color while there’s still daylight! Got a healthy hint to share? Send it to editor@e-tyh.com. You could see your hint and name in next month's edition! |
