Vegans Advised to Take B-12 "Permanently"

It's one of those repetitive messages that you may stop listening to if you're vegan but hear this. The vegan diet trend has increased in recent years such that the position of the German Nutrition Society (DGE) is that it is "difficult or impossible" for vegans to eat enough nutrients to supply adequate B-12. Other missing nutrients may include long chain omega-3s (fish), amino acids (protein from fish, dairy, meats), vitamin D3 (animal sourced), and riboflavin (B2). The DGE further states that "rejecting any animal foods increases the risk of nutrient deficiencies and thus of health disorder, a vegan diet is not recommended by the DGE during pregnancy or lactation, or for children or adolescents of any age".
