Digestive & GI Health
How's your digestive system?
The whole purpose of eating food is to supply your body with nutrients to help you grow, heal, perform and basically function optimally. So always start with a healthy diet. Chewing releases the initial digestive juices and prepares the stomach which in turns empties into the intestines for nutrient extraction and elimination of "leftover" waste. Besides gleaning helpful nutrients, your GI system must dispose of harmful toxins.
Digestion is a complicated process via the 30 foot system from mouth to exit. Any compromise could mean a compromise to your health. For instance, since 70% of immune cells are located in the GI tract, having a strong immunity depends on a strong GI system.
Many factors influence digestion. Age for one with less production of digestive enzymes after the age of 40. Sometimes NSAIDs or prescribed medications erode the protective esophagus and stomach lining. Low fiber and water intake affects transit time and regularity. Those with GI conditions such as Crohn's, diverticulitis and celiac may require special attention.
Supplementing is one way to help the digestive system by providing enzymes, nutrients to rebuild the lining and probiotics to build efficient, beneficial bacteria.
Remember, if you are what you eat, make sure all goes well from start to finish!
